NEW TOOL: How to integrate the argumentation from evidence practice into engineering design projects

Posted on December 10, 2019

The social and material practice of argumentation supports powerful learning processes and is central to the creation and application of knowledge generally. As the implementation of the vision outlined in the Framework for K-12 Science Education unfolds there has been a tendency for argumentation to focus on supporting students as they make sense of scientific phenomena. However, the Framework also highlights evidence-based argumentation—and the other 7 epistemic practices taken to be culturally variable—to be central to engineering as well. This new STEM Teaching Tool highlights how argumentation is productively integrated throughout the engineering design process. This resource was co-authored by Kim Weaver and Gina Tesoriero.
