NEW TOOL: Designing and participating in community and citizen science efforts to support equity and justice

Scientific phenomena are all around us which we can investigate. Community and citizen science efforts can be powerful arrangements for science learning, the coordination of multiple perspectives and knowledges, as well as social and natural impacts. Such efforts bring together individuals with varying expertise into a shared authentic investigation of science-related phenomena. There is a long history of community and citizen science—and research on important qualities and design approaches of them has recently been synthesized. Christina Guevara and Philip Bell co-authored this new STEM Teaching Tool to pull together key insights for those designing or participating in community and citizen science efforts.
