Talk Resource Tools: Cards Sets
We have developed two types of talk resource cards at the moment: Talk Science Resource Cards and Constructive Conversation Resource Cards.
- Talk Science Resource Cards are designed to support specific science communication practices.
- Constructive Conversation Resource Cards are designed to support explicit communication practices in English more generally. While these cards were developed from resources directed at English language learners, we know that many other students need support in the cultural norms of engaging in academic English as well.
Things to Consider:
- Consider choosing a single card to focus on for a week or two. This will help improve practices over time.
- Make sets of cards for use with pairs or groups of students when they talk together. Direct students to particular practices (cards) that you might want them to focus on at a given time. Sets could be linked together with a ring to make them easy to reference. When printing, select "Flip on short-edge binding.")

- When conferencing with ELL students or other students who may need language support, offer students specific cards to help them think about how they might respond to your questions.
